need help identifying tanker

Post by chrisl »

can anyone assist in identifying the tanker in this photo. its on a Welland Canal  postcard . stack seems to be white in centre and blue bottom and tip . looks like the name is an initial and surname on the hull. Steamer in background is old . guessing the photo is 1960's vintage.

by the way... if you saw a canal boat with that little freeboard today you'd think it was sinking.

Sorry, can't id the ship.  Looks like the photo was taken from Lock 3 looking north toward the Homer Bridge.  Before the Skyway was built so early 1963 or previous to that year.

That is the Oil Transporter. At the time the photo was taken she would have been owned by Gayport Shipping Limited. Hall Shipping purchased the assets of Gayport Shipping in 1959. Oil Transporter was renamed Oil Transport in the same year. So this photo was taken between 1951 and 1959.

The link to BGSU shows the vessel in her early years in her original configuration. https://greatlakes.bgsu.edu/item/440278
