I"m late to respond, but HWSL said it best.  The park in the east end by Pilette Rd has a beautifully landscaped park, and it right across from Belle Isle (Boatnerd webcam).  The ships are pretty close here, especially upbound.  Plus there is a concession stand and washrooms.  Closer to downtown and west end by the bridge has almost endless waterfront parks with a great view of Detroit.
