Suggest you start by getting a copy of the book Red Stacks Over the Horizon by James Elliot. It is the history of the Goodrich line, which owned the Carolina. Lots of information to get you going. Also, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc has a substantial collection of material on Goodrich line vessels.
